Panelists – Guidelines for Presentation - 20 minutes each

Note: X=Your Resource Discovery Solution

  1. Handout will include screen shots of a search for holstein and and item record of an article from same search plus a brief description of your implementation of X on your campus. Please send Steve this information by Friday, May 28th.
  2. 8-10minute demo of X - focused on what is different, new, interesting about your product as compared to OPACs and/or other Library Database.
  3. 10-12 minute where you answer/address some the following questions:
  • What's in there? What isn't in there? What kinds of content are you indexing? (Bib data, article metadata, full text, digital collections). Describe any local digital collections that are harvested by X. How does that process work for you?
  • Talk briefly about the process of implementing X.
  • Does X run on hosted hardware or does the customer host?
  • What feedback have your received from users? (assessment).
  • How well does X integrate with other library services such as ILL, Open URL resolvers, etc.
  • Is circulation status of locally held physical collections included within X dynamic (real time) or updated less frequently. How is that accomplished?
  • How much control do you have over the display or interface?
  • Does X de-duplicate all types (formats) being searched?
  • What was your library's vision for resource discovery and how does X fit in with that vision?
  • Briefly reflect on resources (especially staff time) that were required to make X work. What percentage or amount of these expended resources would be wasted if you left X for another (competitor’s) product?
  • Are you happy with X? Why?
  • How have you dealt with the challenges or shortcomings of X?
  • What benefits (expected and unexpected) have resulted from implementing X?
  • Are you using the API from X? If so, what are your thoughts?
  • Have you looked at the other (competitor) products? Why did you choose your solution over the other products?
  • Have you signed a contract with X and for how long?
